This will be the first ever encounter between Colombia and Congo DR. It will also be just Congo DR’s second ever match against a team from CONMEBOL, having lost 2-1 to Chile in a friendly earlier this month.

Colombia’s first World Cup match against African opposition ended in defeat, a 2-1 loss to Cameroon in 1990. Since then, they’ve won all three such matches, each by a one-goal margin: 1-0 v Tunisia (1998), 2-1 v Côte d’Ivoire (2014) and 1-0 v Senegal (2018).
